SUMMER ACTIVITIES

Are you looking to escape the heat and do something fun with your family this summer? The Village of Taos Ski Valley invites you to come cool off and enjoy some great family activities.

SUMMER CHAIR LIFT RIDES

Taos Ski Valley's easiest and most relaxing way to escape the heat and enjoy the mountain scenery. Take in the spectacular views, blue skies and clear mountain air while riding the chairlift. At the top, experience unobstructed views of alpine peaks and abundant wildflowers. The lift will run 10am-4:30pm Thursday-Monday,  beginning June 30th, 2011. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for kids and can be purchased at Taos Ski and Boot, Co.

GOLF AT 9000 FEET?

It's Disc Golf - test your skill, keep the score, enjoy the views and spend a day in the mountains. Located around the base area and on Strawberry Hill this is a great way for the whole family to get together and try to outdo each other. Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use a flying disc, or Frisbee. A golf disc is thrown from a tee area to a an elevated metal basket target which is the "hole," As a player progresses down the fairway, he or she must make each consecutive shot from the spot where the previous throw has landed. The trees, shrubs, and terrain changes located in and around the fairways provide challenging obstacles for the golfer. Finally, the "putt" lands in the basket and the hole is completed. Disc golf shares the same joys and frustrations of traditional golf, whether it's sinking a long putt or hitting a tree halfway down the fairway. Play is FREE and rental discs are available at Taos Ski and Boot at the base of Lift #1. Disc Golf is open daily from June 21st until Oct 1st.

HORSEBACK RIDING

Come ride our gentle horses with friendly, knowledgeable guides in the Land of Enchantment. In May, we travel from our home base in Lajitas, Texas, to enjoy the cool mountains of Taos, New Mexico. Our location is on the slopes of the Taos Ski Valley where the Sangre de Cristo Mountains rise 13,000 ft. above us. Enjoy beautiful vistas from trails that wind among the pines and high country meadows.
Rio Grande Stables

We offer guided outdoor activities for all seasons. Our specialty is horse rides and snow mobile tours in the beautiful Southern Rockies near Taos Ski Valley. Follow mountain trails from our mountain cowboy camp to peaks and ridges of the Rocky Mountains. Enjoy chuck wagon meals and experience the beauty of the Sangre de Cristos.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION

Based in the Taos Ski Valley and designed for children from first grade and up, our camps focus on hands-on learning experiences. Throughout each of the two week day camp sessions, we focus on several different themes (archeology, river ecology, wildlife biology, orienteering, etc.). We explore each theme and our surroundings through hikes, field notes and drawings, organized activities, art projects, and games. The older children sessions include an overnight. We also offer two one week sessions that include backpacking trips.
