Josh Jensen, owner of Calera, will pour a horizontal of his five Mt. Harlan Estate Pinot Noirs from the 2006 vintage. For more than 30 years, Calera has excelled in producing classsic pinot noir wines and in doing so is now recognized as of North America’s best producers of the varietal. The tasting will also include Calera’s Mt. Harlan Viognier and Chardonnay.

Joseph Phelps Insignia Auction Vertical

Joseph Phelps Director of Winemaking Damian Parker and winemaker Ashley Hepworth will lead a tasting of Phelp’s rare Auction Napa Valley Blend Insignia. For many years Phelps has produced an Insignia barrel of wine specifically for the Napa Valley Wine Auction. A six-vintage vertical from magnums of this unique Bordeaux-varietal blend, spanning three decades, will be tasted (1983, 1985, 1990, 1992, 1994 and 2004).

Domaine Drouhin Oregon (DDO)
Burgundy’s Drouhin family winery in the Dundee Hills of Willamette Valley has been a reference point for compelling Oregon Pinot Noir since the eighties. Wine writer Matt Kramer recently wrote the 2005 Domanie Drouhin “Laurene” is perhaps one of the best Pinot Noirs ever produced in Oregon. DDO Cellarmaster Arron Bell, in his first TWWF appearance, will lead a retrospective tasting of Domaine Drouhin Pinot Noir, including the 2005 Laurene.

Spottswood Estate Cabernet Vertical

Beth Novak Milliken will host a retrospective tasting of her family’s Napa Valley wines. The tasting will feature a seven-vintage vertical of Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon -1999 through 2005. Known for classic and refined estate Cabernet, some critics, including Robert Parker, refer to Spottswoode as the Chateau Margaux of Napa.

Great Wines of the Veneto, Italy

Brian Larky, owner of Dalla Terra, will transport you to the Veneto region of Italy. This instructive tasting starts with Prosecco from a third generation family in Valdobbiadene, Adriano Adami. For white wines, Stefano Inama’s two Soave Classicos will show the state of the art in Italian white winemaking. Traditional Veneto red from Tenuta Sant’Antonio will include Valpolicella, Ripasso & Amarone. Innovative red wines from Inama’s project in Collie Berici will feature Carmenere wines.

Blind Tasting with Joe Spellman, MS
|

Joe Spellman MS will teach guests how to use their eyes, noses and palates to determine varietal, region and vintage with red and white wine. Six wines will be presented in the Court of Master Sommeliers’ blind tasting format. Guests will try to use their new skills to deduce the wines’ origins. The TWWF is honored to have Master Sommellier Joe Spellman introducing all the week’s seminars.

Justin Isosceles Blending Seminar

For over 25 years Justin Vineyards Isosceles Bordeaux varietal blend has been a reference point in the Paso Robles region. Joe Spellman MS of Justin Winery leads guests on a component tasting and blending of Isosceles 2007. The finished 2005 and 2006 will also be tasted.
